Räihälä wrote his first proper string quartet in 1992 but revised the piece in 1994 before the first performance. The work was premièred by the Russo Quartet at the Kuhmo Chamber Music festival in July 1994. String quartet has a sub-title Ever-tone and it is one of Räihälä's first major works. It has three movements which all reflect a three-note cell, fetched from Everton's fans chant - hence the subtitle.
